4 tips to keep the mind engaged @ home

School has now moved to your living room, the teacher speaks to your child through the laptop speaker; this novel educational dynamic has already made an immense impact in your child’s learning experience. Helping your child adjust to these new changes could be certainly challenging, yet rewarding. Teachers have several techniques to engage children of all ages into processing new concepts and developing critical skills. In order to successfully do so, here are a few simple and highly effective ideas to successfully engage your child academically at home: 

Reading while being at home

Regardless of your child’s age, it is imperative that they are exposed to literature from a young age. Reading would offer your child the opportunity to explore new concepts, explore their imagination, and develop early critical thinking. Ask questions about the plot of the story while reading along with them to ensure reading comprehension and practice retrieving by recalling five main ideas after finishing material. 

Animal presentations and flashcards

Every week you can create a “mini at-home animal project” in which the main focus would be picking their animal of preference and researching facts about it. You can help with the research, look for videos and documentaries, and finally, you can write all the concepts in flashcards and have an “in-home” presentation. Flashcards are a way to have “knowledge in your hands,” and it’s never too early to introduce kids to this great memory help. 

Practice makes perfect 

Workbooks emphasis retrieving and practicing concepts better than the old technique of memorization. Repetition will easily help your child understand challenging mathematic ideas. Assign two to three pages of exercises daily in order to refresh old ideas and help master new concepts.

Set time aside for fun

Physical education is till today students’ favorite course for a reason. Running, jumping, and playing is essential for a healthy lifestyle. During study breaks, they can do some jumping jacks or quick stretches to facility body flexibility. In addition, every other day they could follow a kid-friendly workout routine to help them let out all the energy they are carrying inside.
